This is a full-day, in-person training on suicide prevention with teens, including special attention on transition age youth living in substitute care, such as foster care. The course, taught by a nationally prominent expert on youth suicide prevention, is offered at your agency location and is presented in 4 sections:
- Recognizing suicidal youth, including warning signs, risk factors, and trigger events
- The role of trauma and anniversaries in youth suicide attempts
- How to start and successfully manage a conversation about suicide
- What to do if you are “too late;” Managing the “aftermath” of suicide
The course includes sensitive and safe interactive components that encourage participants to use observations, questions, and identified behaviors to intervene before a suicide attempt. Large amounts of resources are provided to support both individual and agency suicide prevention efforts. Resources on dealing with the aftermath of a teen suicide are also provided.
